SamenvattingA remarkable example of 15th century French architecture, The Hotel-Dieu hospital at Beaune in Burgundy was founded in 1443 by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of Duke Philip the Good. It remained a charitable institution for over five centuries, and while medical progress required ongoing changes to the building, overall, the original structure has been preserved. Gifts and legacies over the years have left The Hotel-Dieu with an impressive heritage that includes religious paintings - most outstandingly "Rogier Van Der Veyden's Last Judgement" polyptych - as well as portraits, tapestries, furniture and kitchenware which had been used by its occupants. This book offers a detailed guide to the building, the collection it houses, and notably, to a number of rooms now closed to the public.
