| Samenvatting | The family is undergoing a profound transformation: the marital unit is weakened, but on the other hand, kinship relations appear to be strengthening. In France, recent work on this institution has shown the importance of aspects of continuity and perpetuation. Is this a French specificity? Is the intergenerational dimension treated in the same way in northern and southern Europe? These are the questions this book answers. Based on the French experience, the three most common dimensions of kinship (sociability, support, transfers) are examined. But there are also what are commonly called "European diversities." And this is the whole point of this work, to have brought together contributions from researchers who describe the cultural aspects of kinship, question family networks and the desire for family perpetuation, from Southern Europe (Spain, Portugal, Italy) to Northern Europe (Sweden, Norway), passing through Germany, England, France and the Netherlands. |
