SamenvattingThe English poems of the British Library Manuscript, Harley 913, were written in Ireland in the early fourteenth century. The manuscripts have strong Franciscan associations. Sometimes called 'The Kildare Poems', both because of their association with that area and because one of them claims to have been written by Friar Michael of Kildare, the poems show considerable influences of the Irish culture in which they were cradled. They are also full of ideas, themes, and images which are part of the Western European Christian tradition and especially close in affinity to the acknowledged works of Franciscan friars. They are a unique witness to English literature in Ireland at this period. This edition has been prepared with an introduction on the manuscript and language. Each poem has a facing-page translation and a commentary. There is also a bibliography.
